progress of effacement

I just came from the doctor and she told me I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I was induced last time so I don't know much about the natural process of labour. My question really is how quickly I could get a 100% effaced and if this then means that I will go in labour soon? Is it true with 2nd pregnancies you dilate before you efface? I am 39.5 weeks at the moment.

I've been 50% effaced for the past 3 weeks..and nothing so far. Currently - 40 weeks pregnant

I walked around 100% effaced and 3cm for three weeks before I went into labor (second child). It's not really an indicator of when labor will begin.

My OB says dialation and effacement mean even less with respect to when #2 is coming than they do with #1.
