HGC magnet screening tests

What's the difference between the inview global gifted screening the 3rd grade test for highly gifted center eligibility? Can anyone describe the content in / type of test the highly gifted screening test? Is it more like an IQ test or more like an achievement test - what is it modeled on?

What about the middle school magnet screening tests? What do they measure? Are the scores like IQ tests or achievement tests or modeled on any NYstate tests?

HGC test I think includes Raven matrices. I think it is supposed to be more of an aptitude/reasoning test (please, no flaming thread about the validity of this type of test, I think it's bull, but it is what it is.) It's definitely a different test from the Global screening which occurs in end of 2nd for all students. HGC testing is sometime in December. Applications are due in early Nov. and this means that you have to opt in if you want to test (i.e. not all students are tested for HGC, just any who want to be). When you apply, you will receive an acceptance/rejection/waitlist letter with info about your DC's raw score in relation to the median score of the accepted group.

Thanks - is it the same raven matrices for the middle school magnet screening test(s)?
