there are no direct studies linking too many U/S to any major problems, only theories. personally i have had only the ones deemed medically necessary b/c i think i do think it's possible they're not all that great for the baby. but many people have lots of U/S do to high risk pregnancies, etc., and the babies are fine. it's just that personally i think too much of anything isn't good.

my doc said it was just sound waves and posed no harm to the baby. i had a lot of U/S's with my 1st pregnancy and baby...now 2 is fine.

I think the OP might be my mom (j/k). My doctor has a little ultrasound in her office, so I have one at every visit. My mom (who is a nurse) totally freaked out when I told her that and said too many ultrasounds are bad for the baby. I looked into it-- I think the older ultrasounds were not as "healthy" but the ones today are perfectly safe. And with the high rate of malpractice cases against OB doctors, you gotta think that they would not be performing extra ultrasounds if they were unsafe for the baby. I think what really drives this is insurance reimbursement, since most insurance companies won't pay for more than 2 ultrasounds unless you are high risk. My doctor said that they do not bill the insurance companies for the ultrasounds that she does each visit, but that they like to still do them to check on the progress of the baby. Some doctors wouldn't invest in ultrasound equipment though if they know they will not get reimbursed enough to justify the cost. They are pretty expensive gadgets.

There is no danger. I would check above url and read what the experts have to say rather than getting medical advice from this board.
