I am moving into boundry for chevy chase elementary with rising 3 and 5 graders and a kindergartener who would be at rosemary hills.
Can anyone share their experiences with these schools? They are all coming from a DCPS which has been a very good experience. What is the bus scene like for RH from town of chevy chase? is there an adult on the bus other than the driver? # of kids? length of ride? Do either RH or CCE use the Writers Workshop model? What Math curriculum do they use?- they have been using Everyday math. How is Language Arts taught? Are there differentiated reading groups? Is the Kindergarten at all play based? In K how much are they outside? What are the art programs and music programs like at these schools? What about sports at the CCE level? Do they rotate through classes in the upper elementary levels, or does a homeroom teacher teach the core subjects (math, Lang. arts, social studies, science?) How are the class placements made (levels, testing, previous report cards- or just gender/race balancing?) What about science- are there labs at CCE? Is it hands on science? And finally- how are new children transitioned in? especially at upper CCE grades? Thank you for any insight. I will call this week to either visit, or see if some of my questions can be answered by the school too. |
You'll probably get more answers from the PTA listservs of both schools (I'm on the RH one, assume that CCES has one too.) Also, take the opportunity to go on a tour - they are hosted by parent volunteers who are excellent sources of information. I took a tour at RH last year and came away feeling like this will be a good place for my child when he begins kindergarten next year. The parents were really enthusiastic and the school was bright and welcoming with high quality resources and instruction. You can get info on the PTA from the school website. |
