I am a new mom and don't know a lot about high school grads. I want to buy a friend's daughter a small gift. Any ideas?

I like to give the kid a check for the amount of the year: $20.08 this year.

If they're going off to college, a gift certificate to a store like Target or Bed, Bath and Beyond will come in handy to stock up the dorm room.
