Provigil/Nuvigil

Anonymous
Has anyone used these for alertness/concentration?
I have a hard time staying alert at my job, currently I drink tons of coffee.
Taking a pill would seem to be a much more elegant solution.
Please let me know any experiences you may have had.
TIA.

I am currently on Nuvigil, but I do have a mild form of narcolepsy. I was on Provigil for a few years, but always needed a second dose in the afternoon. Nuvigil is nice in that it lasts all day. I have an extremely hard time functioning "normally" without it. I can take it and have a cup of coffee, and still be tired at night.

Have you been evaluated for a sleep disorder? I don't know of any doc that will just write a script for it without doing tests since it is considered a controlled substance.

Thanks for your reply!
I think my main problem is that hubby is such a restless sleeper I don't rest much myself. Maybe I should encourage him to be evaluated for a sleep disorder...

Totally makes sense! DH has sleep apnea, and without his CPAP on at night, I can't sleep at all with his snoring. He's not allowed in bed without wearing it!

Dr. Emsellem in Chevy Chase is very good and highly recommended by many physicians.

I take Provigil and I find it to be very helpful for my ADD. But before you start medicating on a regular basis, I think a much healthier option is to do everything you can to get a reasonable amount of sleep at night. If that means sleeping apart from your husband sometimes, so be it. The cumulative effects of sleep deprivation are way more significant than being tired at work.
