Irregular periods since IVF

Anonymous
I had a failed IVF cycle in early December. During the IVF cycle, I got my period at exactly 28 days and didn't even go in for my beta. Then, last month my cycle was 35 day and now I'm at 33 days and no sign of my period. My period was always very regular at 27-28 days before the IVF. I have never had periods this late unless I was pregnant. I'm not pregnant! Now, I'm worried that the IVF meds have completely screwed up my hormones and my chances of pregnancy are even lower. Anyone been through something similar?

Have you had any complications as a result of IVF - OHSS or cysts?

OP here. I definitely did not have OHSS and I don't know about the cysts. However, I did two IUIs prior to the IVF and did not have any cysts.

I am not a medical practitioner and do not have any medical stats to prove it, but I believe that meds used during IUI and/or IVF can affect your cycle (for some women). I didn't have a period for 3 to 4 months after my first IUI. Acupuncture was helpful in my case in regaining my normal cycle. Same experience after my IVF and miscarriage. I always go to acupuncture to regain my regularity.

Ditto: I have zero medical training. But the injectibles really messed up my regularity. Two months after finishing 2 IUI's and I'm still not quite right. Plus it seems like any little thing - cold, big deadline, whatever - and I'm late. Wasn't like this before.

PPs, did you track your ovulation during the months your periods were late? I was on Gonal-F last month for the IUI and this month I feel like my ovulation is delayed, which means that my period will be delayed as well. So annoying. I am going to an acupuncturist this weekend to see if he can help. I wonder whether this has anything to do with multiple cysts that I developed during my cycle on high doses of Gonal-F.

OP here. I found out that I'm late because I'm pregnant!

Congratulations, OP!! So happy for you! May be there's hope for us who failed IVFs and multiple IUIs?

OP here. There is definitely hope! In fact, I have gotten pregnant (unfortunately all early losses) five times on my own vs. the 2 failed IUI cycles and 1 IVF cycle. I think it really depends on your individual situation and specific fertility issue but I've found that each time I've taken a break from the treatments and refocused on acupuncture, eating right, exercising and taking supplements, I get pregnant. I hope this one sticks!
