Interesting. I think it was my son's second season of flu shot -- but the nurse told me to hold him facing me, cuddling him, with his head over my shoulder. His thigh was exposed and she gave him the shot. In this position, it was almost as if he didn't even notice he got a shot.
Now as he's older, he does best if warned ahead of time that he's going to get a shot. I don't know why -- it's just his personality. Definitely a bad idea to just spring it on him. He cried for hours afterwards the one time I did that. Plus, he believes me when I tell him there won't be any shots at sick appointments, and that has a calming effect on him as well.
