Health and Medicine

This has been happening for a while now... several months or more. Sometimes (though not always) when I go to the bathroom, I'll have really sharp abdominal pain just above and behind my hip. (Sort of where I think a kidney should be, but not sure.) This happens with #1 and #2, but worse with #2. It's terrible while I'm actually going, remains ouchy for 5-10 minutes after, and then fades away. If I had to venture the world's most uneducated guess, I would say that something is irritated by the movement within-- something bladder- and colon-adjacent. Part of the reason this guess comes to mind is that it's definitely more likely to hurt if I've waited a long time to pee and my bladder is really full. So I wonder if some other part of my guts is protesting the suddent and drastic change of shape as things empty out.
Does this make any sense at all? Would welcome some insight. |
| Go to the doctor, please. |
I'm not going to submit to a colonoscopy if this is just one of those "getting older" things that no one ever warned us about. Just like I'm not going to waste a doctor's time asking about my crow's feet or my sometimes-achy joints. That's why I'm looking for input from folks who might have experienced something similar. |
| I had similar symptoms. It was a large ovarian cyst. Turned out not to be a big deal but glad I got it checked out. |
That makes sense. I have one ovary that is prone to cysts; actually had one operated on years ago, and have ended up in the ER twice in the past decade for the mittelschmertz. And it's on the same side as the pain in question. I should start paying attention to whether the poop pain is better/worse at various points in my cycle. Thanks! |
| What? You've decided your symptoms are just like a poster based on 3 short sentances. No, no, no....you need to see a doctor. An ovarian cyst does not cause symptoms during urination! You could have a kidney stone, diverticulitis, or nothing at all. But this is not a "getting older" or "crows feet" thing at all! You can do a virtual colonoscopy if you refuse a true one (not that you might even need that), but please don't blow those symptoms off if they last longer than a week. Seriously, not a good idea. And I'm guessing you have kids since you are on this "moms" post...so if you won't do it for yourself, then see one for him. But don't get medical advice like that from a listserve! |
| You need to see a doctor, really. Could be a wide variety of things, some extremely serious. I wouldn't be thinking that a colonoscopy would be the first step by any stretch. |
| As a doctor, let me tell you that you really hould see a physician. These are not normal symptoms. And they should be taken seriously. |
| Have you ever thought about endometriosis? It would make sense with this symptom and your history of mittleschmerz (sp) and cysts. |
