TMI--Recurring stomach bug, what's going on with me?

Anonymous
Posting because it's starting AGAIN.
Starts with the same foul tasting burps, then nausea, vomiting and diarrhea all arrive at pretty much the same time. UsuAlly I feel it coming on mid day, then it really kicks in after bed time and has me up several times during the night. Stomach issues usuall last the first 12 hours or so, the diarrhea 2-3 days. I had it a week ago, 2 weeks before that, immediately before and after Christmas, and on and off over a few weeks last summer when I was pregnant. Any ideas on what's going on and how to prevent it? It's early morning and just had a telling burp, I bet I'm hunched over the loo just in time for my toddler's nap this afternoon.

DH thinks it's from changing diapers, or something since in the only one in the family it keeps happening to. DS and DD, 6 and 1.8, both has vomiting and diarrhea back in early December before this started for me, but have been ok since then.

Sometimes there's really bad stomach pain as well.

It sounds like a noro that is going around. We have it recirculating in our house, but a much more mild version of it. It also seems like it is only really hitting me now, too. Mine starts with excessive burps or (more usually) horrific gas. Then I know that its on for a couple of days of terrible nausea, pain, etc.

I'd go to the doctor - that sounds horrible. Possibly some sort of food poisoning/infection that hasn't been treated?

Time to go to the doc to rule out bacterial causes. You can't recirculate the same virus.

Hmm could you be pregnant?

Agree that there's no way this is a norovirus that just keeps happening to you over and over again.

Do you ever, ever had weirdly dark stools? It doesn't sound like it, but the recurring nature of your GI symptoms made me think of a colitis or Crohn's. My sister has that and it definitely cycles on-off. Howver vomiting is not a feature of either.

I had a type of e. coli last year that I didn't realize and it never left my system. Finally had to get on powerful antibiotics to knock it out for good. Dr. can perform a stool sample to see if you have an ongoing bacterial infection like 21:06 suggests.

Another thought is a food allergy. Some allergies cause a different kind of systemic response than anaphylaxis, but they operate similarly, immune system-wise, and can definitely cause burps, puking, and diarrhea until the offender is out of your system. read this: http://www.ibstreatmentcenter.com/3_a_2.htm

Just a quick note on this. I'm a different stomach bug thread OP and was initially panicked about my dark stools, but after Googling, I discovered they can be caused by Pepto Bismol.

I second the recommendation to go to the doctor, OP.
