I'm about to make a Moroccan recipe that calls for slivered almonds, but my child is allergic to some tree nuts and we need to avoid them all. Can you think of any good substitute in the recipe to give it the same texture -- somewhat crunchy? The rest of the recipe has ground turkey, various diced bell peppers, and golden raisins. TIA.

What about those thin, crunchy noodles that are on top of salads? You can also lightly saute some extra bell peppers and throw them in at the end so they stay crunchy.
PS, the recipe sounds nice, if there is a link, please post it! |
Could you do something like pepitas (green pumpkin seeds)? Sounds delish!
My DC is allergic to nuts, and i often use chopped water chestnuts in recipes as a replacement for nuts, not for taste but for the crunchy texture.
Toasted, salted sunflower seeds.
Grape-Nuts
I guess pine nuts are tree nuts?
diced celery
diced apples might also work
