Bathing suit advice-- toned on top but larger on bottom not as toned, good waist and 40

Ideas? I used to wear a bikini because my top and middle are decent, but I am seem to have really out of proportion, hard to tone lower half and I am getting older, which isn't helping any of the above, including my previously very slim top. I am tall-ish (5'8) and athletic build when in my best shape.

well nobody in real life-or at least most women i know- have a perfect body all over. sounds like you have a great upper body so show that off and minimize the lower half - i think you should wear the bikini and maybe pair it with a skirt cover-up or linen pants, something to hide the lower half? i don't know, i'm a pear shape so i try to accentuate my petite upper body and draw less attention to my wide hips. congrats on keeping in shape! and remember, you're your harshest critic. no one else will look at your body and pick it apart the way you do

Have you been to a beach? Here I get all worried about how I look in a bikini (being a size 6-8 with a larger bottom) and as soon as I walk onto the beach, I easily weigh less than half of most of the people there.

I try to go for bottoms with side ties or a belt around the bottom, with higher legs (not boy shorts), something to distract and make the 'muffin top' less obvious (have you read that thread?). Unless I wear a 12" skirt there's no avoiding my cellulite, so I just work it the best I can.
