Accupuncture in Arlington

Anonymous
Hi girls:

I've been toying with whether it would be good to give accupuncture a try. I'm in the middle of an IVF cycle and have not tried it before. Can I start it now? Or wait to see how this cycle pans out?

What have your experiences been like with it? Is it worth it?

Anyone have recommendations for an accupunturist in north arlington that they would recommend from experience?

Thanks!

I went to Kerri Westhauser while TTC, for several IUI's a stint of BD'ing and then an IVF and really liked her. She's not in N.Arlington but just down in Falls Church (she also has offices in DC & MD). I found her really knowledgeable and helpful and I loved going. I felt like it helped tremendously w/stress- it also helped w/cramps, blood flow, etc. but never got a BFP.

I saw Stephanie Simmons (in north Alexandria) for infertility for a couple years. I went through IVF with her and now have a son. I would say, however, that starting in the middle of an IVF cycle is not ideal. Most acupunturists want to see you for a few months to regulate your cycle as best as possible first. Also, it can be stressful the first few times because getting needles stuck all over is a bit uncomfortalbe and unnerving. So, if it were me, I wouldn't want my first acupuncture experience to be while doing IVF. In terms of being worth it - I TTC'd naturally for about 12 months with acupuncture and it didn't "work" in the sense that I didn't get pregnant that way. My menstrual cycle changed dramatically, however. It was really amazing - I went from having long, painful periods (my entire life) to relatively light, pain-free periods after about 4 months. She also cleared up my asthma and helped me when I sprained a knee. I'm pretty skeptical about these sorts of things, but I am totally won over. That said, it's not a miracle, and I still needed IVF to get pregnant! Good luck!
