Trip to Jamaica planned end of this month feeding into first few day of March...
Where do we stay???? Seems to the hot button topic for this topic! |
| Depends on what you enjoy. The super all inclusive resorts (Couples, Beaches, etc.) on the North side have everything on site, great beaches and water sports, good food/drink and are relaxing and nice, but you won't see much of Jamaica. There are a handful of standalone resorts that aren't so isolated and are also very upscale and luxurious (e.g. Strawberry Hill, Jake's, Half Moon). |
| If you just want to laze on the beach and not pay for any extras, go to an All-Inclusive. If you have kids, try Beaches or FDR (beach not so great, but wonderful help with the kids). If you're going without kids, I'd avoid Hedonism -- too skanky. The higher end All Inclusives are better. If you want to get out more, I'd recommend hotels in Negril or Rock House -- small and very lovely. If you want to see the island and explore, I'd recommend Chukka Cove Adventure tours. Very pleasant and well run, and they'll come and pick you up at your hotel and drop you off afterwards. Jamaicans are wonderful people and the island is very beautiful, but there is crime in the bigger cities like Kingston and Montego Bay (alhough it's unlilkely you'll be anywere near Kingston), so don't walk around with a lot of cash or jewelry, and stay away from touts trying to exchange currency or sell you weed. The weather is lovely in March. Try a fresh coconut or some sugar cane. Eat jerk chicken and have rum punch. Listen to some good reggae and enjoy. |
| We stayed at San Souci pre baby and it was very nice |
| Half Moon is very nice |

What is your budget? I just stayed at Secrets...orchid something or another in Montego Bay. We paid a thousand a night, but the resort ans accommodations were nothing short of amazing, true luxury.[b][i] I know there are smaller rooms, that I think are closer tto half that. Best part NO KIDS

Visit nine mile- bob marleys home
Ricks- everyone has to once Blue hole mineral springs Rose hill plantation, once home of the white voodoo witch There are also some falls in the area that area popular, but you may be disappointed- they're nothing compared to many other Caribbean falls or niagra or something. |
| Round hill. Very nice, elegant, exclusive. Don't know your budget-it's pricey. It's where they filmed Where Stella Got Her Groove Back. It's very family friendly. |
| we love Couples Swept Away! |
| we stayed at Jake's two years ago. It's what I'd call upscale bohemian. Great food. Nothing to do but kick back and relax. |

Goldeneye is fantastic but super expensive
Rockhouse is a great spot in Negril; the West End is very walkable Good Hope Great House is a different experience (no beach) but is a very nice old plantation If you like the mountains, Lime Tree Farm is even better than Strawberry Hill. Be sure to visit Cinchona Gardens and Holywell if you do go to the Blue Mtns. |
