Why doesn't Fairfax have a Arts/Humanities Magnet?

Anonymous
Why do we only have TJ for science and technology? There are plenty of smart and highly motivated kids who don't want to specialize in math/science during their high school years but would benefit from a magnet with a different focus, or just a magnet that attracts bright kids. It seems like MOCO has many more special programs for brighter kids, or do I misunderstand? Has anybody lobbied for this?

I so agree with you. Sucks for those not destined for the science/math track. In any case, TJ is still the same size as when it opened and there are so many more kids in the area that it serves, so the final pool as a percentage just gets smaller and smaller.

Because a majority of the current School Board members have stated that they do not want an arts/humanities magnet high school.

There is Bailey's for elementary school.

But why? Does anyone know their stated reasons? Seems like you'd keep more kids in public if this were an option.

Because Arts and Music aren't going to get the vast majority jobs that can make $$$$ And I say that as a professional musician.
