I foresee the Boomers in my neighborhood going out and banging their pots and blowing their whistles in celebration. |
If Democrats want to win back the presidency in 2028, they should absolutely pray that Trump lives through his second term. Like it or not, JD Vance would be *very* tough to beat if he were running as the incumbent president. Democrats should wish for Vance to be nothing more than VP. |
No. Nobody likes Vance. He was thrust upon the GOP by Thiel and associates. MAGA doesn't trust him, and he's so patently unlikeable in his public presentations that really, it's quite obvious he won't be a popular Acting Prez. |
+1! |
I think you really underestimate Vance. Like him or not, it’s obvious that he is extremely smart and has very good political instincts. Knowing that he has the 2028 Republican nomination locked up as the incumbent president, Vance would have a lot of flexibility to be as moderate as he wanted. |
Sorry, no, he has rubbish political instincts. He is very smart, but intelligence doesn't automatically translate to political skills. He's been way too crass and overbearing, and if you recall, that's something voters are prepared to forgive ONLY when it comes from Trump. He cannot walk back all the stuff he said and suddenly turn into a moderate, that's not going to happen (the reverse often happens, and it happened to him... but it's a one-way street). He openly admitted to elevating and spreading the story about immigrants eating dogs and cats, saying that it was OK to lie in the interests of the American public. When that's repeated ad nauseam in a campaign, Teflon Vance he won't be. There will be clips of the video of him berating Zelensky, or him berating our Allies, of him saying of the GOP 30 year old operatives that "boys will be boys" when they joked about gas chambers in their group chat. Again, only Trump can be that awful and not suffer consequences. |
haha. no. |
It's not just gonna be a boomer party. |
Incumbent presidents are almost impossible to beat. Sure, Trump lost in 2020, but just barely, and it took a worldwide pandemic and *massive* economic dislocation to do it. Again, just barely. If things are going okay in 2028, not great but not bad either, I think President Vance would be pretty much unbeatable. And I swear I am not a Republican. Just trying to be realistic. |
He will forever have maga stink on him. |
Along with 70% of the country. |
Let’s hope that by 2028 a lot of his benefactors in the Epstein class will be under investigation. |
An incumbant President hasn't won since Obama won in 2012. That was over a decade ago, nearly a decade and a half ago. |
But Vance will not be a real incumbent because no one voted for him the first time, and they sure as heck won't vote for him as President. You're just wrong, PP. I don't care what your politics are, you're not thinking about this correctly. |
Don’t forget that President Vance would get to preside over the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and all of the goodwill and positive feelings and national pride would transfer to him. And I’m sure Republicans will schedule the RNC to occur right after the Olympics finish in order to take advantage of this. |
