Size 5 Year vs. Boys Size 5 at The Gap

When your son outgrew the toddler size 5 years at The Gap did he move into boys size 5 or size 6? According to the charts available online it looks like they're the same size but I want to check before I order a size up. What was your experience once your child outgrew the last toddler size at The Gap. I had been ordering size xs shirts, but we just recently moved up into size small shirts. I have no idea what to do pants wise though.

I had this trouble too. In our experience, there wasn't a ton of difference. The 5T was *slightly* smaller, but not too much. I think they are fairly comparable.

i actually thought there was some difference between 5T and size 5. not sure about the GAP but found it was definitely bigger (equivalent of the next size) for some other brands.

My son just outgrew his 5T pants so I just bought the next size in boys' sizes. Wrong! There was a HUGE difference between a 5T and a boys' small. The pants were falling off of him even when I made the waist as tight as they go. I tried Old Navy, Crazy 8 and the Gap. In the end, I found that a size 4 at Target for pants was much closer to his size than anything else.
