| If you've rennovated your bathroom, where did you or your contractor source your tile? Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can look at samples of tiles other than home depot? I'm a new homeowner and totally clueless. Google isn't giving me much of interest. TIA |
| We've used The Tile Shop a few times (the one I used is in Rockville). They have alot of displays (waaay more than HD/Lowe's) and a good return policy (so you can buy extra but return what you don't use). It's a decent place for DIYers. Architectural Ceramics is another place w/ a huge selection and showroom but definitely higher end- $$$. |
| We've also used The Tile Shop in Rockville. Be sure to ask for discounts. They usually able to give 15-20% off. |
| morris tile and dal tile are probably more price competitive than architectural ceramics and definitely worth a look, but architectural does offer a huge range of price choices. Also, depending on the size of your bathroom and the accent colors you need, always ask them what discontinued, returned or odd lot amounts are in stock. A friend of mine got a really expensive tile for her powder room at a bargain price that way. |
| Mosaic Tile in Fairfax. |

Don't they have a mosaic tile off Rockville Pike? That shop was hugely expensive.
We bought our tile at Lowes, which has a much better inventory than Home Depot. I particularly recommend their Rialto line, which is cheap yet rather good-looking. Rialto has low prices because they do not have many color choices - but the quality is very good indeed. |

Renaissance Tile in Alexandria, Waterworks in Georgetown (machine-made tile is affordable, handmade is . . . very pretty. focus on the pretty).
I really liked the tile designer at Ideal Tile, although we ended up going elsewhere. |
| We ended up going to a small place (Mclean Tile & Marble) because I was totally overwhelmed by the big shops. Another great place that I found after the fact but plan on going back to for a kitchen project is Mosaic Tile in Merrifield but I see they have a couple of other locations. Make an appointment if you go with them b/c they get busy. |
| We used Architectural Ceramics. |
Us too. Worth it for one bathroom that we did in marble. The other we did in fairly basic tile and Arch Ceramics was overpriced for that. We also liked Ann Sacks Tile if you want to be creative. |
OP here, these are great tips, thanks! Now, has anyone replaced oddly sized interior doors? lol, my house needs some work, as you can tell.

| The Tile Shop is great - my friend works at a non-local branch. I used their website to get ideas for my recent kitchen/bath renovations. (we ended up sourcing most of our tile from HD and Lowe's, though.) |
I looked here, too, and they have gorgeous stuff. Very $$$, though. Look all over. I don't know where you're located but if in NoVa, there are a bunch of tile/flooring shops on and around Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Route 7 in Falls Church. There's an Ideal Tile (showroom) and some other smaller places where you can get much better deals. They have samples there to look at but not a fancy showroom. I ended up finding the best deal in Alexandria at Total Floors. http://www.totalfloorsinc.com/map_directions.php |
