I really liked this series. How can it be over already? This was just the fourth episode!
|
| I loved this series ... taped tonight's episode, and look forward to watching it. With it weren't over yet! |
| And it ended with everything so up in the air! |
| Yes, it's over, with nothing resolved. On the BBC in the U.K. there were six episodes, but it was expurgated for U.S. audiences. The good thing is that another one is in production and I'm sure PBS will pick it up. That one will bring the family through WWI. |
| wow, they edited out the equivalent of two episodes? I might just buy the whole series so I can see the rest. I did think some episodes seemd a bit choppy, now I know why. Particularly the scene where Lady Mary takes that Turkish embassy guy to bed and suddenly, boom, she's waking up her maid and telling her he's dead... I thought they skipped oh, maybe JUST A BIT! |
| There were 7 episodes in the BBC version and amazon on demand has the first 6, but not the last one for some reason. There is another season coming to the uk though. |
| Loved Downton Abbey -- it's been the perfect escape on these cold winter Sunday nights! I was so glad to learn that there's another season in production. Everybody, be sure to let PBS know that you want more Downton Abbey -- more fabulous clothes, more gorgeous accents, more upstairs-downstairs intrigue, more sisterly rivalry, more Maggie Smith, more Elizabeth McGovern . . .. |
I saw this rumor and also verifications that it is not true. Here's one explanation (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/54778037.html), which says, in part: "The only thing missing here are, in fact, the commercials themselves. Let's take a closer look. PBS is airing Downton Abbey as four 90-minute episodes, bringing it to a run-time of roughly 6 hours. Removing the ad breaks, ITV's run of Downton Abbey ran for--wait for it--roughly six hours. (Two episodes ran as 60 minute installments, while five ran for 45 minutes excluding the commercials, of course.)" I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Season 2! |
This was not a BBC series but an ITV series. ITV is a commercial station with ads hence the editing. |
| I'm glad I'm not the only one! I yelled "what, noooooo!" when it ended the way it did and that little note came up explaining that the second season is now in production. I guess we'll just have to wait! |

Mixed feelings about the series. I loved the first episode. Love the sociology behind it -- changing times, changing class relations and loved the devotion to showing how a great house is managed. Then it started to go down some pot boiler plot lines which annoyed me. But not so much that I stopped watching!
And how did Lord and Lady Grantham, such nice people, raise two such disagreeable daughters (Mary and Edith)? |

I posted earlier, I love this series ...
Funny thing is that when I watch the actress playing Mary, I'm reminded of someone I know (similar eyes/eyebrows/expression), so that's a bit odd for me personally. The actress playing Edith has such a classical face; larger, wider eyes, less "perfect" nose. Overall, great casting and acting ... |
| I'm ususally a Masterpiece devotee and can't believe that I did not see that this series was airing until last night. I watched and it was great; so sorry I missed the first three episodes (January was a bad month for me!) I'll check out Amazon on demand for the earlier episodes and look forward to a new season! |
They hired the wrong nanny or governess. |

At the end of Episode 4 it said that a second series was in the works. Of course, they said that about "Island at War" as well...
I was really taken aback at Edith and Mary's relationship. These two sisters effectively ruined each others' lives. I guess I'm naive because I don't have a sister, but some of the things they did were really beyond belief. |
