Work Samples for GT?

Anonymous
Hi,
What do we submit for Work Samples for GT for parent referal ?
Can you all give some ideas?

I'm submitting a couple photo graphs, 2 pieces of art work, that is pretty much it. You can include stuff the kid has done at home in their spare time (a friend of mine has a example print out of her daughter's computer programming).

We didn't submit any work samples for our child. I was confused as to what I should submit and after talking to the GT teacher at her school, didn't send in anything. She said that it really wasn't necessary because the school submits samples. My daughter did get in last year.

I wouldn't have had a clue as to what I should submit!

I saw some really good work submitted by the kids in the PTA's Refelections contest. Something like that might help. Otherwise I agree with PP above; the school usually submits the writing samples, art work etc., s ocurred in my kid's case.

is there a strong relationship between art work and AA?

I honestly think it's a bit comical to see how some people submit photos of their kid's baseball trophies and artwork to the GT committee. I can't imagine that things like that would push a kid who barely made it into the pool over the edge.

This is an academic program. Submit things that show academic achievement and desire to learn.

I have two children in the AAP program right now.

Although I did speak to their respective teachers when we got the "pool" letter and let them know that our kids were interested in attending, I never bothered to send any creative or academic work with their application.

Whatever you want. You don't have to but if there is something you want them to see, send it in even if it a large piece of artwork. If the school wants to submit it, they will shrink it and send it in.

I talked to our school when I got my "in pool" letter this year, and was told not to do anything. My dd's teacher has been keeping a file with dd's best work, and often has me sign off on things before she puts them in the file. DD's teacher also showed me a couple of examples of what's going into dd's AAP file. A remarkable speech dd wrote based on MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. Science experiments she did on her own in class during recess. I'm still collecting work samples here at home just in case, though.

I thought the stuff was due today. And why isn't your dd participating in recess?

17:20 here. My dd's idea of play sometimes IS to run an experiment. She came home with a paper towel full of sand from the playground and a piece of paper attached to it listing her reasons that sand came from outer space. I'm saving that.

No worries, she runs and plays outside like everyone else!

Talk to your child's teacher and AAP resource teacher for ideas.

If your child does something unusual for their age...save and take a picture of it if it's bigger than a page. Keep a diary of things that your child says/does that seems unusually advanced for a child their age.

Good Luck to all.
