Infertility Support and Discussion

2nd month on clomid, RE says 3 big follicles about to release. Even if my body produces 3 eggs, with my DH sperm at 4% morphology and 40% motility is it even possible for me to naturally become pregnant ??
any success stories out there? |

I know there are many success stories on here from couples with male factor issues. I actually don't think your numbers are necessarily bad. DH has 35% motility and 4% morphology and my RE doesn't consider this to be an issue (I have PCOS). We haven't gotten pg yet but that's probably more on my end than his. When we first got DH's numbers I freaked out thinking there was no hope, but then I stumbled across this blog http://infertilityblog.blogspot.com/2010/07/sperm-morphology-new-guidelines.html
I can't say I know anything about this Dr. but I thought his article made sense and he's basing that information on the WHO's new standards, so I think it's pretty reputable. If you have 3 follicles on clomid and you can ovulate on your own or use a trigger shot, your chances are probably pretty good. I'm sure others on here have had success with similar stats. |

I don't know what DH's motility was, but he had 1% morphology and I have/had PCOS. We got pregnant naturally and quite accidentally.
Good luck! |

My DH's morphology ranged from 1-4% during the years we were TTC and his motility was always excellent. We were never able to conceive naturally and the poor morphology was our only identified fertility issue. We ended up TTC naturally for about 4 years total (over the course of trying for 2 children). We ended up doing IVF both times and it worked both times.
So who knows, for some people sperm issues (including morphology) can be something that precludes natural conception and for others not. Why? Who knows. I always wondered if somehow the poor morphology in our case was a sign of some other deficit that can't currently be tested for. Perhaps my husband's sperm are missing some sort of receptor that helps with fertilization. This makes sense for us because once we did IVF we had awesome fertilization and great embryos and every embryo we transferred back stuck. Or maybe it just came down to a numbers game. Even men with horrific sperm can get women pregnant--if the right sperm happens to get through at the right time. It may just not have happened to us. I think a reasonable plan would be to try clomid with timed intercourse for 3-6 cycles and then move on. Most RE's believe if a treatment is going to work the odds are that it will work within 3-6 (often closer to 3) cycles. |
| My husband's sperm quality is similar to yours. We got pregnant once all natural, but I miscarried. It's been more than 2 years ago and since then no luck. We tried two natural cycle IVFs, two medicated IUIs. I am planning to do a medicated IVF the nex cycle to increase my chances. I don't have any medical issues except for AMA (I'm 39). |
| My dh had great count and motility but bad morphology (anywhere b/w 1 and 3%). We got pregnant naturally and had our first child. We then had to do IVF after that since on top of poor morphology, he got a freak infection which left his count at anywhere b/w 2 and 5 million and his motility not great. We did IVF 4 yrs later and had a 2nd and 3rd (twins). Since their birth, we have had two natural "surprise" pregnancies, one ended in a miscarriage and one is now our fourth child. We had his stats checked to see what on earth was going on -- morphology still as bad as ever, motility so so and count had come back to 15 million -- not great either. So it just goes to show you that numbers dont mean a heck of a lot in some cases. Best of luck to you! |
| hi there, just want to say that we went through this testing and saw morphology and number problems. I was crying and worried. Umm -- I was also pregnant, only didn't know it. Don't let it stress you. Docs said they don't put a whole lot of trust in spermanalysis -- also, a single test may not be as good as multiples! |
