Health and Medicine
| Hi - I am in the processes of lining up a pediatrician for my first child I am expecting in a couple months. Does anyone have any feedback on the Pediatric Village located on Massachsetts Ave in NW DC - Drs. Edmonds, Hay and Koomson? It seems to be right next to Spring Valley Pediatrics. |

we really like it but a lot of people don't. I want a doctir who knows what they are doing, I don't care how they say it etc I want the best. If Dr. Edmond's is good enough for most doctors kids in the area it should tell you something. Also, if she is good enough for 1600 Pa Ave....
It gets busy long waits but a great doctor |
| The practice has a bad reputation. I don't know whether it's deserved or not, but I do know three families that started out there but didn't stay due to various issues. There are many highly regarded peds in this town. I would (and did) go with a practice with a great, rather than questionable, reputation. |
| Thank you for the feedback. It was helpful. Any other opinions out there are very welcome as well. |
| Are there any websites out there that can inform parents about the different pediatrics practices in the city? We're also looking for a new ped for our child, and other than DCUM, don't know where we can get reviews from people. Thanks. |

I really *want* to like them but...
- they keep you waiting in their very uncomfortable exam rooms, sometimes for over an hour (we have never gotten in an out of there in less than 90 minutes) - the three docs often completely contradict each others advice. We got contradictory advice about breastfeeding and about clogged tear ducts. - their patient files are often disorganized and incorrect (it took three tries to have them put our DS's correct name on his file!) - the Drs seem to have a tendency to forget important things and have to be reminded. Everyone at the office is very nice and I love the idea of supporting a woman-owned medical practice, but my DH and I are currently seriously considering finding a new doctor. |

I would only go if you like waiting for your doctor for hours on end and are good about questioning the nurses and doctors as to whether the shots they're giving your child are actually for your child and not the kid across the hall.
I left and went to Spring Valley - it's a world of difference. |
| Final straw for us is when the nurse argued with me (yes, really argued...raised voice, attitude and all) trying to convince me that it was my son who had a chronic condition (not my daughter). Sure enough, she pulled the records and they had mislabeled the records. Scary and not ok. |
| i visited before i had my baby and waited an hour in the waiting room to see the doctor. (i had an appointment.) doctor seemed nice but i thought that was a bad beginning.... |

You can search the DCUM Archives to read many negative reviews of Dr Edmunds @ Pediatric Village. Actually, the bad reviews starting coming in before the forums existed. I remember terrible reviews posted on the original DCUM mailing list probably starting in 2003. There was a huge blowup over their mismanagement of flu shots one year. I know I'm not only one who found the admin staff to be deplorable, the nursing assistants unskilled and Dr Edmunds herself off the mark at times. Switching to another practice was a huge breath of fresh air.
