Do you own some? Do you like them?
We wish to install working wooden shutters on all our windows, that we will can close at night, for safety (we live downtown) and to keep out the cold (or warmth, depending on the season). Do you know of reputable companies? Also, some of our windows are too close to the chimney to have a shutter lie flat on that side. Do you think it would still be possible to install a shutter, with the hardware mounted on the chimney for it to rest against? None of the shuttered houses I drive by have this, but then they probably all have the decorative kind that needs to lie flat. Any thought on this are appreciated! |
| We have internal shutters that close. External ones are too inconvenient in the weather (opening and closing windows is irritating). I used to live in Belgium and we have roll shutters. Those are the BEST for security, comfort and energy efficiency- but not a cheap and easy install. |
OP here. Rollers, yes! I used to live in France - they are ubiquitous in new constructions and very efficient. However, we would like to preserve the early century style of our little cottage and would rather go with something "vintage". |
| early century as in 1920, not 2010! |
