DS is 2.5 and has had a stuffy nose for the past few weeks. We have an appt to see his pediatrician next week, but in the meantime I'm trying to unblock his nose so that he can eat properly. I've tried using a humidifier (cold vapor) and a vaporizer (hot vapor) in his room overnight while he sleeps. Neither of these has worked. I've also tried squirting saline solution up his nose and sucktioning out all the dried up mucus. This doesn't work either.
He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms - no runny nose, no cough, no sneezing, no itching, no eczema, no itchy eyes, so it doesn't appear that he has an allergy to anything at home. Does anyone have any other methods that I could use to try and unblock his nose? |

You could try a netty pot.
It could end up still being allergies without those other symptoms. I have allergies and I always have a stuffy nose with no other symptoms. If it is allergies, your doctor might prescribe Nasonex or Flonase. |
| My DS constantly has a runny nose, so he is going into to surgery to have his adenoids removed next month. If you child just has a cold or something, what you could try is those plug in Vicks vapor things, that helped my son alot at night. |

I broke down and gave my kid a 1/4 dose of Triaminic at this age. The kind with just the decongestant and allergy med. Worked for a couple nights so he could sleep.
Have you tried children's claritin, in case it's allergies? I also put Vicks vapo rub on clothes. And what about mucinex? That's ok for kids too. |
| Allium Cepa 30C....homeoopathy rocks. |

| a nettie pot is probably hard to use on a toddler. but try using a nasal spray. |

If nothing is coming out, have you considered that it's actually inflamed sinuses? Maybe some motrin will help with that inflammation? Also - why not try something like Benadryl or OTC Zyrtec for kids (check the weight for dosage.)
I would call the advice nurse at your ped office to double check on the OTC meds. |
