thyroid specialists?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism post-partum, and would like to consult with an "expert" in this condition. Anyone been to a great specialist?

Thank you!

Dr Mark Tanen in McLean/ Tysons. Exactly the same thing happened with me about 3.5 years ago (ultimately diagnosed with Hashimoto's), and, after wasting a year with my PCP I ended up with Dr Tanen - so much better! GL!

I've been working with my PCP with success for 14 years, just make sure you have your blood tested regularly in case you need to adjust the dosage. It is highly manageable, thank goodness.

Right near Montgomery Mall. Wonderful doctor. She did a needle biopsy on my thyroid and couldn't have been more professional or nicer and kinder to deal with (I'm not a big fan of needles, and the idea of someone sticking one into my throat of all places was a little much for me to take, but she handled things wonderfully).

I highly recommend Dr. Ken Burman. he's known throughout the country and is located right here in the DC area at Washington Hospital. I've been with him for about 4 years. he has been following me on a complex case with my thyroid. he treats you with respect and is not afraid to consult with other doctors/experts in the field that he has close relationships with.

washington hospital is not the most glamorous place, but I go there just to see him.

I do like Tanen a lot and I would recommend him. It's helpful he has an ultra sound right there to check out your thyroid, but could I just say, I'm still fat! Pre Hashis with healthy diet, exercise anf the occasional stint with weight watchers or Jenni Craig I always stayed a healthy weight and sometimes was even quite slender. Must i be this fat with Hashi's. He tells me that's a frequent complaint. I kinda wish he had solutions or tried different med combos, but maybe I need to suck it up and be fat. Maybe there isn't an endo out there who has a solution. Vent over...

Dr. Stagnero-Green at GWU MFA specializes in thyroid and pregnancy. He only sees patients on Tuesdays but he's fantastic.

I hear you!!! Its hard. But its possible. It just takes a lot more work and diet alone won't do it (even though for most people diet is most important). Try some weight training (interval-like) to boost your slow metabolism.
