| That Living Social deal with the Amazon gift card sealed the deal and I'm buying a kindle. Now I need the cover too. What do you like about yours? What do you hate? |
| I bought mine on Etsy and I love it. There are lots of cute cases on there and you need to think about the features you'd like. I wanted a case with a pocket, but some people don't like pockets because they add bulk. I also wanted a case with a flap closure. My husband doesn't like cases at all because the Kindle is so small and any case is going to increase its size considerably. |
| I have an m-edge case that zips all the way around. I like it because it's very protective. If I have it in my bag with a bottle of water and it leaks it would be fine. A lot of the cases don't really enclose the kindle. I usually take it out to read if I'm at home. You can also buy a book light that fits into the case cover and is also nice. I'd recommend it for function, but it's not stylish or anything - very utilitarian. |
| 20:32 here - I forgot to link to the Etsy seller I bought from: http://www.etsy.com/shop/dobeeubags?ref=seller_info |

Are you looking for a pretty cover, or just something functional? I have this one -
http://www.amazon.com/splash-SIGNATURE-Leather-Generation-Display/dp/B004FOEVFW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295834412&sr=8-1 and it's great - but it's just plain black leather. It's super soft and holds the kindle in place perfectly. The only thing I don't love about it, it's a little boring. |
my kids have kindles and this is the case I got for them. I took the foam insert and put it in the front pocket to make an extra layer of protection. Also, when we are travelling, they fit the cord in the pocket. And a small book light. When it is zipped up, it has actually bounced when its fallen off the couch. |
| Get the one with the built-in light!!!! So so so so worth it. |
Ditto this. Can't imagine not having the built-in light. |

I have found no use for the light.
I thought I would always take mine out of the case when reading, but have not done that at all. Mine lives in its case. I have the M Edge one. I wanted one that fully zipped up, to protect it. I like mine because it does that and it is so slim and compact - it adds almost no bulk. Here is the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/M-Edge-Latitude-Kindle-Display-Generation/dp/B002I74YXW/ref=sr_1_16?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1295845971&sr=1-16 |
| You need the light if you want to read in the dark. It's not backlit. |
|
The light is great if you like to read in bed.

| Love the case I bought on Etsy from KimsKreations. |
| I have a really basic one with an elastic band that holds the cover closed. It looks like the lighted ones on Amazon, without the light. It's probably not all that protective, but I love it because it opens like a book and I can hold it by the top spine as I would a book. I resisted getting a Kindle for the longest time because I love actual books so much, so something that makes it feel more like a book is important to me. |

I have the amazon one.
Long story short, the screen somewhat spontaneously broke on my mom's kindle (which was a fairly common problem on the 2nd generation). She had it in a non-amazon case. Despite the known issue, Amazon refused to replace it because it was not in the official amazon case when the screen broke. We eventually got a refund through the Better Business Bureau but it was a pain. |

Warning about the Amazon brand black leather case with the metal hooks that fasten the Kindle in place: this case has been causing problems with the kindle's system, causing it to freeze and reboot randomly. I had that case and was having lots of problems with the freezing/rebooting and the battery not holding the charge very long because of the frequent rebooting. I found out it was caused by the case by scouring through the Kindle support forums. I have since put my Kindle in the zip-around M-edge case and I like it. Absolutely no freezing or rebooting since I switched. I like the pockets, it's more flexible than the leather case, and seems a bit lighter.
Back when I checked the support info online, there was no recall or warning about that leather case and they were still selling it, which I thought was kind of shady of Amazon since there were quite a few posts about people having to return the case and Amazon acknowledging the problems to the individual user. For some reason, apparently the leather case with the built-in light hasn't been causing the same problems. I don't know if it has exactly the same metal hooks, but I decided not to risk it and I got a case that grips the Kindle via corner straps - no metal. |
