future of FCPS GT Centers

Will they be funded for next year and moving forwarrd for at least 5 years? What can I expect?
Anonymous
Yes, they are funded for next year. Who knows what 5 years beyond will bring. (It will certainly be a new School Board.)

I think that GT centers will be around for a while. They may cut things like bussing, but one could arguably say that providing gifted kids with the GT center level classes that they need is part of a "free and appropriate public education"

for the families that could not afford the expensive houses near the center, AAP provides a way for those kids to excel. I think that FFX should keep it at all cost. they could cancel the buses and other things if the allowed budget has to be cut.

The AAP Centers aren't all located in the more affluent neighborhoods.

but the best schools in FFX are located in the most affluent areas.

There's no need for spend money on bussing kids to separate AAP centers. We should save the expense and raise expectations for all the children.

Raising expectations for all students and providing a more challenging academic environment for very smart children are two different things.

There would be a massive intifada if FCPS tried to reduce or *gasp* eliminate GT. These parents are relentless, tenacious and often deep-pocketed.
