Help us here...
I hate NP. The smell makes my stomach turns and DH insists on reading it at BF table. I keep telling him it's dirty, disgusting and stains your hands but he insists and we always end with him walking away with his coffee mug to the living room to read the damn thing. We can only have BF together once a week due to weird working schedules so I wish we could enjoy this time together (OK OK we do have other meals together during the week. NP really disgust me though) He just yelled at me saying I'm picky and everybody does that. Please enlighten me: Anybody else out there also enjoys BF with the newspaper on the table while your family is there? By the way, thanks but no thanks, we don't need counseling our marriage is great. He's not abusive and I'm not a nagging bitch. I just HATE the smell of NP. |
| You're the problem. You asked. |
| Reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee at the breakfast table is one of life's small simple pleasures. I'd be sad too if my spouse wanted me to stop. |
| I can't imagine my breakfast table without the Post. Neither can DH. It's our routine. If you think the paper is dirty, wipe down the table after he's done. Don't you read the paper? Do you use gloves when you do? |
| You are over the top. You can't let a man enjoy his morning newspaper? You say it's "dirty, disgusting, and stains your hands"? WTF? We love to read the Sunday Times and Post at the table. It's a long standing tradition of many well read American families. Get a grip. BTW, do you even read? He probably walks away from the table to drown out your nagging. |

I join the fingers pointing at you. Let this one go. |

Agree with all of the above. I sympathize with you OP because I have a lot of aversions to smells myself (NP is not one of them, though). But reading the paper at the table is one of life's simple pleasures and a tradition in many (at one time, probably most) households. Sorry.

| Weekend paper ate the breaKfats table is a joy. Though I would stop reading if my wife wanted to talk about something. |
| Totally agree with pp's We like reading the paper together on weekends. I suppose as an alternative you could get an ipad with the Post app on it. |
|
OP, you realize that you are in a very, very small minority, right?
Unless you are pregnant and have understandably acute smell issues, you should let this one go. |
|
There is nothing better than reading a newspaper with breakfast in the morning.
You are nuts, I am afraid. Sorry. |

OMG Let me run and apologize to DH then.
I never knew about this! I'm not American and back home my dad would sit on the porch to read the paper on Sunday morning. We were never allowed to read or watch TV while eating. So I guess I'll have to just suck it up then
I read the paper but I do it in the living room and wash my hands afterwards. BTW, have you tried washing your hands immediately after handling the paper? Notice the color of the water and you'll know what I'm talking about. If you read the paper and go do other stuff the ink will fade away from your hands that's why you won't notice. Thanks for the reality check. Now, marching to the living room to apologize. |
Glad to know you're apologizing. I call bullshit that you read the newspaper though, given that in your initial post you said the smell sickens you. BTW, the ink that transfers to one's hands after reading the newspaper used to be much, much worse. It's not bad at all now. |
