Type seems so small - is this farsightedness?

Anonymous
I have been nearsighted my whole life - cannot see 10 feet in front of my face without glasses or contacts. Now I'm 40 and find that the type on my computer screen and newspapers is seeming very tiny. Is this farsightedness, and am I about to need bifocals or "readers"? It doesn't seem to be better if I hold the print far away. I suppose I should go see the eye doctor but am wondering what to expect.

Yep, it's age unfortunately. I'm 41 now, but at 40 I saw an optometrist for a new prescription (also nearsighted all my life) and mentioned to her about how all the writing on medicines and shampoo bottles are getting smaller! She very tactfully told me it was my choice when I wanted to start bifocals ... !!
