chest pain on left side

Anonymous
For a while (can't remember how long) I have been getting deep pains every so often on the left side of my chest.. sort of like the top half of my breast (or if I push my breast up so there is no sagging at all it would be almost directly under my nipple). Sometimes it is achy and other time it is more like pain, and other times it feels like pressure. I honestly don't know how often this happens, which sounds crazy, but I just have no idea. Maybe once or twice a week? I should probably get this checked out, huh? What doctor would I even go to?

Is it possible that I am having some kind of heart problem? I just turned 26 and am otherwise healthy except for endometriosis. I know if I mention it to my husband, he will think I'm overreacting and it's in my head, and if I told my mom she would start freaking out and make me go to the ER. Can any of you non-biased people out there tell me if this is something I should be worried about? I do occasionally get panicky/anxious so maybe this is just a form of panic attack?? I honestly don't know.

Could be a pulled rib. Chiropractor?

hmm that's an idea. I never even thought of that.

could be referred pain from somewhere else. i've been having a shoulder issue and have some pain in the area you are describing....

might try a massage or a PT

Have you done a lot of coughing recently? i once got terrible pain under one breast after a bout of the flu and some serious coughing. Don't know if it was a pulled muscle or a rib issue but it hurt terribly when I coughed. Eventually went away.

I'd just go to my regular general practitioner and see if he/she thought it was cause for concern or a referral to a specialist.

Of course, sometimes it takes me so long to get an appointment with mine, the problem goes away by the time the appointment rolls around.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Did you get an x-ray done? Did you recently get over pneumonia? Did you pull yourself working out? Do you suffer from heartburn? I wouldn't take it lightly.

Agree about the referred pain, especially in light of your endometriosis. I had a hemorragic ovarian cyst that caused severe pain up under my breast. I was convinced it was my gallbladder, because of the location. When I went to the ER (pain was BAD) and mentioned that I'd had a gallbladder attack once before and the pain was in the same place, they spent hours looking for signs of GB trouble, not even checking the lady bits til they'd exhausted everything else. So, advice is, if you see someone, make sure to mention that you have a known condition further south and ask if it could be related.

My husband got a collapsed lung from coughing too much with a cold. Funny thing was, the cold and the cough were much better when it happened. Don't know if that would come and go, though. And it's not as dire as it sounds... IIRC, it means that there's some air on the outside of the lung pushing in. (Right, medical people?)

OP, google Costochondritis and see if it sounds like what you're experiencing.
