time for lab results

Anonymous
Hi-
I have an ob-gyn in No Va that I have always really liked. However, I am curious if she is the norm when it comes to delivering lab results.

This summer I had some fertility blood work done and it took her a month to get me results (this was with me calling 2x). It turned out that she had a family emergency, so I sort of wrote it off as an anomaly. Flash forward to this month - My husband had a semen analysis at Dominion Fertility more than two weeks ago - she's had the results for 9 days (I called DF to see when they sent the results and they faxed them 9 days ago). I called my ob-gyn office today to see if I could get the results and they told me that her standard is now to deliver results 2-3 weeks after receiving them (which for something like this would mean 4 weeks from the time my husband did the test).

Am I being high maintenance and this is just as good as it gets anywhere? I am wondering what's going to happen when I am pregnant and want results faster than 4 weeks.

Unacceptable. I left the Reiter Hill practice because it took them 6 weeks (after multiple phone calls) to give me the results of some fertility blood work. My sister is a nurse and she said I should have had this information within days, a week max. Fast forward -- I'm at a new practice, I need the results of a sperm analysis sent to my RE's office. I was able to get them faxed that day. This stuff should be seemless to doctors' offices.

Thanks so much!!! I really think that this could drive me crazy especially since I know I'll be considered high risk, so will probably have tons of tests done - I just can't wrap my arms around four weeks to give lab results!! Want to recommend your new practice?? Anyone else think this is normal and I should just relax?

No, in my experience, that's not normal for any type of doctor (fertility or not). I don't think I've had to wait more than a week for lab results anywhere. Is there any way you could get them directly from the RE? When my GYN thought I needed to get some diagnostics, he referred me straight to an RE (shady grove), which probably helped because he didn't have to act as the middleman. Good luck!

i'm 17:16. I got to Dr. Paul Tudder in Reston. Very good. Nice guy. And I love his staff -- just a group of nice, down to earth women.

Thanks to all - I think I'm going to keep my next appt (in a few weeks) and ask specifically about her standards on returning lab results for preggos - if it's longer than a week, I'll switch - bummer b/c I have been seeing her for years and really adore her. Oh and still no semen analysis results - I am crossing all fingers that no news is good news, but for all I know no one has even looked at it yet
