COGat 50 SAS points separating non-verbal scores from the other scores? 2nd grade

3E(+N)

Got an "in pool letter" How can this profile be "in pool". I was excited when I saw the pool letter but not so much when I saw the report. NNAT was only 111. He has ADHD and has an IEP. I was originally told he topped out the NNAT but the teacher was mistaken and it was a subsection of the COGat he maxed out the points on. I love him to pieces and it gifted/non-gifted/struggling doesn't matter all that much. We've had him screened several times for LDs and he definitely isn't low functioning due to other testing we have had.

The testing in the past (the school did for his IEP) was the Woodcock Reading Mastery test: His comprehension was 180s; total reading was 138. The intelligence portion of the test was inconclusive due to his cooperation to take the test and his very obvious adhd (primarily inattentive). His school is awesome and they adore him.

No wonder he is so frustrated all the time. If I had VS skills verses my verbal/math skills, I'd be frustrated too. lol

HA, forgot to ask, is it possible to have a stanine 9 on one subsection while the other two be 3s?

Yes, and the stanine 9 is how he got into the pool.

He is 2E then, right? That doesn't make him ineligible for the center. In fact, the center might be good for him because they (at least ours) emphasize learning different ways. There are several 2Es at our center.

I'm the OP (of the OP and the first follow-up post; sorry I wasn't clear); I meant to ask could the 9 have been a fluke or simply strongly VS and not really gifted. I should probably make another appointment with the dev. ped. I can get a follow up with his psychologist too which isn't a bad idea... he might be able to get me in sooner.

Oh, and his chart says 3(e) N+. (he got 46 out of 48; NOT 48 out of 48--I misread). The profile that was painted on the cogat.com site wasn't a pretty picture.

Thank you for the comments

I agree with the "strong VS" but I do not agree with the "not really gifted" part.

I'm guessing that working memory is an issue (somewhat common for ADHD kids) and thus the stanine 3. Since you have a psychologist and a dev. pediatrician, I think your idea to consult with them is a good one.
