Does anyone know if there has been any movement on waitlists at Intown or Blue Igloo? |
Don't know about Blue Igloo. Rumor is that Intown has not moved as much as usual. |
Playgroup waitlists?!?!?! Please explain. |
Don't you have something better to worry about? |
Please take the chip off of your shoulder and take it somewhere else, thanks. |
She'll gladly take her chip somewhere else as long as she doesn't waste her time waiting to get into a PLAYGROUP! I am sure your kid can find someone to play with at the park (but if course, those kids are probably beneath him). Oh well, let him wait while the others play. |
You are the one who has a chip. The playgroups are like pre-schools but for younger children. They have teachers and a set facility, they take field trips, and they have lots of developmentally appropriate things for the kids to play and do. It's just an early preschool. The only difference is that the parents/babysitters go with the kids. I don't know why you are all reacting like this is some crazy idea. I am sure they also go to the park and meet other kids. But this is structured (like a mommy and me class). |
Hi OP,
I don't know much about Blue Igloo, but I don't think they'll be movement at Intown at this point. |
Thank you, that is helpful to know. --OP |
where are these structured playgroups? have heard about them in dc but are there any in MD?
|
I have never heard of any in MD. I imagine structured playgroups are popular in D.C. because of the competition for private pre-schools and the playgroups are probably a stepping stone into those schools. It seems silly that there are playgroup waiting lists. Perhaps they should be given another moniker -- pre-pre-school. |
I have to say -- as the mother of a child who attended these playgroups -- that these playgroups are really nothing more than an elitist version of Gymboree or Jonah's Treehouse. I don't know why one would stress about getting into one, and wait around on a waitlist. Perhaps the mothers who take their kids to these playgroups feel better about themselves by "networking" and getting to know others. But the reality is that a lot of the kids who attend come with their nannies.
So, I would not stress about not getting your kid into the "right" playgroup. He or she still will have a shot at the Ivy League if he or she is smart enough.... |
Jonah's Treehouse??? That's an odd comparison given that Jonah's is a one-hour class of free-play gymnastics with basically no adult supervision or organized activities. Why did you have such a bad experience at the playgroups? Did you drop out? Is that why you're talking about the moms like you're not one of the other moms? I'm confused by your post. |
