The elementary and middle/high school subcommittees have finished their reports. Info here:

Some interesting recommendations, including making Poe a Junior High and limiting Annandale to grades 10-12.

It seems that many of the low-income students at AHS live right around the school. Some of the parents are worried that sending Annandale kids to Woodson or other schools would drive up the FRL/ESOL rates at Annandale, so they want FCPS to keep the current boundaries intact but send the 9th graders to Holmes and Poe MS.

Thinking outside the box is not exactly the strong suit of FCPS, so I would be surprised to see this happen. Just like they claim no kid in Clifton should have to go to an elementary school where they rely on bottled water, they'll say no 9th grader in Annandale should be deprived of a typical high school experience.

Great, so my kid gets to be split up from his friends after elementary school in the Wakefield area and we get to brave the new hot lane 495 mess twice a day for a decade. So much for the old days I remember of biking to school and classmates.

So your kids would bike to school down 236 to Woodson instead?
