best advice is to go cold turkey. I didn't with first and it took forever to get off the bottle, with the my second cold turkey-- one week of drama and then it was all over (throw them out so you are not tempted). Good luck!

You should do a search on this forum. This topic comes up a LOT. Anyway my take is that it's not so bad for a 12-month old to continue drinking milk out of a bottle. In my case, my son was just not ready to give up his bottle, so I didn't force the issue. Just don't let them go to sleep with the bottle, clean their teeth before bedtime, etc. We transitioned him off very easily at 18 months.

We are almost done transitioning at 17 months. I started introducing water in a sippy at 10 months, but she would not take milk except from breast or bottle. Kept trying sippy a little every day. In the past couple of months, I started putting a little bit of juice in her water and she started drinking more from sippies. Then, I have started to give her sippy cup of milk in the morning and evening (when she used to take a bottle) and she really doesn't seem to mind. In the past month or so, I just removed the bottle (except on emergencies) and she didn't seem to notice.
