Blackstrap molasses?

Anonymous
Any ideas on how to work blackstrap molasses into my toddler's diet? My son is tiny and won't touch meat, so I am hoping to up his iron intake a bit.

yogurt
pasta sauce - a little sugar always tempers the acid in tomato

It goes well with peanut butter if he eats that.

I put it into smoothies. Another good way to boost iron is to cook acidic foods in a cast-iron pan -- heat up your pasta sauce in it, cook a tomato-based stew or curry, etc.

Oatmeal.

We did "kid coffee" - just be sure to brush well. Beans are also great for iron (we pureed and dipped corn chips in black beans, or ate baked beans with extra molasses). Using a cast iron pot/skillet to heat acidic foods is really good too. My kiddo went from borderline anemic to fine by the next check.

EARTH CLINIC'S ICED MOLASSES RECIPE:
1 TBLS Blackstrap Molasses
Hot Water
3/4 cup Milk or Soymilk
Ice

Add molasses to a glass and add just enough hot water to cover the molasses. Stir until dissolved. Add ice and then top off with either Milk or Soymilk. Avoiding milk?'Try vanilla or chocolate soymilk. Even yummier is to blend the whole concoction.

OP here. Thanks for the ideas! I feel like an idiot for not thinking of my cast-iron skillet. I just pulled it out!

My kid would take a tablespoon of it right now when I was giving it as a nutritional source. I know, gross, but it was easier than trying to mix it into everything all day.

Er, that was supposed to be right down, not right now. As in she'd just take it off a spoon.
