Our DD is in 1st grade in FCPS and is a very anxious child. We are currently working with a therapist to work through her anxiety issues. We had her evaluated about a year ago for ADHD due to behavior issues in Kindergarten and in other after-school activities. The psychologist concluded that ADHD could not be ruled out as DD did not complete all the testing for the assessment, and recommended treatment for anxiety first before a return back to look further at ADHD.
We are looking for another psychologist specifically to do WISC-IV testing. We believe the WISC-IV testing done by the original psychologist may have been skewed due to anxiety issues that day (that resulted in our DD not completing the other testing). We would like to find someone that works well with anxious kids. Ideally, we'd like someone that also has experience working with ADHD kids. Might anyone have suggestions? |

When my DD was in second grade, we were concerned about anxiety and/or ADHD. We called George Mason for a psychoeducational assessment, but they were booked for months. They gave us a list of referrals, among them Dr, Hoekstra. That is who we used and she was excellent. She did the WISC (as well as other testing). I will say that she was not exactly speedy with her report, but we were very pleased with her and my DD loved her.

I took my DD to Diana Dahlgren last year and am pretty impressive.

Agree. She was excellent with my DC. Do not use George Mason-testers are graduate student. |
| NP here -- how much does this sort of testing cost? |

Try Mindwell in Chantilly. A good group with ADHD and educational specialists.
A full evaluation pkg with WISC testing and everything will run around $2000.00. This includes LD and ADHD screening. They are not MD's however and can't prescribe meds. Great counselers. |

My daughter took the test in 1st grade and thought it was really fun. I would not even tell your daughter that she is taking a test. Just tell her she's going to do some puzzles and word games. My DD went to Valerie Slattery and she was fabulous. She did the test right in her home. I think she made the test seem like a game because my DD is also an anxious child and she never seemed even slightly bothered by the test.

OP here -- thanks for all the great references!
19:11 -- great suggestion about mentioning puzzles and word games. I think that would really help. |

I paid about $375 for WISC IV. |

I think your psychologist or psychiatrist might be able to provide some intelligence testing. And it could be charged to insurance.
I have a friend's kid who has anxiety issues and he is quite bright but he cannot take tests at all. |
