Caring OB GYN @ Alexandria Innova to deliver my future baby?

Anonymous
Hi:

I am new to the Alexandria area, and I am seeking advice on a good, yet caring OB GYN associated with the Alexandria hospital. I am not pregnant yet, but hope to be soon.

I saw Dr. Cheryl Ferrier for my annual exam. She was very good at the exam, but I have two concerns:

1. She is a solo practitioner with a limited schedule, so she might not be the one to deliver my baby. I would like to develop a relationship with my doc and know that that particular doc. will deliver the baby.

2. She is a very down-to-earth person who doesn't mince words. I would enjoy having a person like that as a friend, but for my first pregnancy and birth, I would like someone who is a bit more nurturing - someone who could show support and understanding.

I am hoping to find a doctor associated with the Alexandria Innova hospital because it's closest to me. I would also prefer a female doc.

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Check out physicians for women. Great practice.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but we've been really pleased with the Physician and Widwife Collaborative Practice (http://www.physiciansandmidwives.com/). But, you won't have just one doctor. I haven't delivered yet (just entering third trimester), but all the OBs and midwives we've met have been great. There was one OB we didn't really click with, but if she's on call when we are in labor I think she'd be fine. The nurses and office staff remember us from month to month. The practice is very supportive of natural deliveries, which is what we're striving for. But, they've also been very thorough with offering tests (many of which we chose not to get) and sending us to the Perinatal Diagnostic Center (at INOVA Alexandria) for further consultation because of some family history of disease. I think that they only deliver at INOVA Alexandria.

If you're willing to go to Arlington (Virginia Hospital Center), then I'd highly recommend Women to Women OB/GYN.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

A quick follow up question: when I go try other docs, should I be upfront about the fact that I am in the process of looking for an ob gyn? Since I've just had my annual done, I can's use that as an "excuse."

How do you do it?

Sorry if it's a "stupid" question - just trying to learn how the system works...

Thank you!
