Infertility Support and Discussion
Am getting a D&C tomorrow after baby had no heartbeat at 10 week appointment (I'm poster from previous thread who was deciding whether to wait it out or have D&C). I'd like genetic testing just because I'm Type A but can't get my insurance company on the phone to ask if they'll cover it because of weather issues where I am. Does anyone know how much the genetic testing costs if not covered? Or did your insurance cover it? I have Blue Cross federal, just in case someone knows specifically about that plan. I'm not high risk and this is my first miscarriage, so that might factor into whether its covered. Thanks in advance!
So sorry for your loss. I have Aetna and the testing was covered for testing after my m/c. I think the total cost was around $1200 at the rack rate. Unless you have stripped out coverage, then I can't imagine that this testing would not be covered.
So sorry you have to go through this. My insurance covered genetic testing too (I have Guardian).
Mine covered it for BC BS, but it was my third miscarriage and don't know if that made a difference or not. So sorry you have to go through this.
I'm so sorry. Good luck to you and I hope you recover quickly. I have BCBS and they covered everything. I did not have to pay anything. Stay strong tomorrow. Just remember alot of us have been through this and have gone on to have healthy babies. You will be one of those too.
Op here - just replying to my own thread in case anyone searches for this at a later date. Anyway, I've called twice and talked to two different people and they tell me genetic testing on the fetus will not be covered. Again, I have BCBS federal, the standard option (which is the more expensive of the two). Apparently, the testing costs $1200 if not covered, so I am not having it done since this is my first MC. One of the people told me that if the testing was medically necessary (which my doc said it is not in this case because first MC), they would cover it but the other said she didn't think it would be covered under any circumstnaces. Don't you just love dealing with insurance companies?
I am so sorry to hear that. However, good luck today with your procedure and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
