Where do you keep onions - loose on the counter? in a fruit bowl? in the pantry? in the refrigerator? I'm reluctant to put them in the fruit bowl and/or fruit/veggie drawer of the refrigerator bc I thought that onions in close proximity to certain other fruits/veggies (like apples) can cause faster spoilage. But I hate just leaving them loose on the countertop! And once I've used half of an onion, I'm never sure how/where to store the remainder. Thanks, from a clueless cook!
We store ours in our extra fridge in the veggie bin. There aren't any other veggies/fruits in there. They last a long time. I've tried saving a half used onion but they seem to dry out really quickly even stored in a baggy, but haven't tried wrapping it in some wet paper towel then in a baggy.
Store them in a dry dark place such as a pantry. We bought a small bin and put onions in it so they are not on the floor or just loose on the shelf. Once cut, I usually put it in a plastic bag or tupperware in the fridge and they last a few days.
Cool dark place like the pantry. I'm not sure if can save a cut onion for long but you can chop it up and freeze it for later - they freeze nicely.
