Saturday brunch / lunch - anywhere - our toddler plus adults friends

Anonymous
Hi - We have a couple we rarely see and we all want to meet for brunch. Our toddler prefers to run around at all times. I'm looking for a place where three or four of us can sit, eat and talk while the toddler can move around without disturbing others. We go to a family owned Mexican place where we sit in the back and he can play and run around because that back area is rarely used -- but our friends are not Mexican fans. We're meeting on a Saturday so we aren't looking for the lavish buffet or incredible food, more for a place that can accomodate these 2 different needs. They're in Silver Spring and we're in Vienna, so we're open to various ares. TIA!

Maybe Wu's Garden Chinese Restaurant in Vienna. They seem very family friendly, and have a back reception area where if they aren't having a party, maybe you could sit there and have some space.

Otherwise maybe meet at Tysons Corner Center's food court, let the toddler run around in the play area (yes, with the germs and dangerous older children), and go to TGI Friday's. My kids have unfortunately run around Gordon Biersch's "outside patio" area too, but I wasn't happy about it.

El Tamarindo in Adams Morgan is extremely child friendly. I know you said your friends dont like Mex but this is sort of different. THis is an El Salvadorian place and the flavors are delightful.
My next suggestion is Two Amy's Pizza.

Your house so your child can run around in an appropriate area.

I think that this is a great suggestion.

Yeah this would be my suggestion too. At first I thought the post was sort of snarky but it really is better at home. More relaxed, you don't have to be constantly chasing your kid - you all can hang out for as long as you want and talk.

OP here: the mall suggestion is great. We can't do our house b/c we have cats and friends are allergic. Should have said that earlier.

A Taste of Burma in Sterling has delicious food and is child friendly. I wouldn't let my son run around inside, but when he gets restless, one of us takes him outside. It is in a strip mall, and has a very wide sidewalk that leads to a very large sidewalk area where kids can walk around. I've had races with my son up and down to get rid of some energy. They don't have a kid menu, but we just give my son some of our food (sometimes he loves it, sometimes he hates it) and pack some snack food I know he will eat. He is also greatly entertained by the decaf tea (comes in a little teapot). I order some for me and they bring a little cup for him to use. This entertains him for a long time.

They also have ice cream, which I admit, I use as a bribe for him to behave.

uggh. HATE Parker's in Bethesda. Food is not so good and the service is even worse. If you're going to do Bethesda- Cafe Deluxe is fine with kids- but really not anyplace to run around.

Normandie Farms in Potomac advertises itself as child friendly. We took our daughter there once when she was 2-years-old and we couldn't find a babysitter for a special occasion and it was definitely child friendly. Even the other patrons smiled at her and giggled whens he wandered around. It seemed like an older Potomac crowd and a lot of large tables with families consisting of multiple generations eating for something special, but we were there at night. I've heard their brunch is great, but I've never had it.

The Clydes in Rockville off Twinbrook is pretty big and kid friendly. They have several rooms and tend to seat families with small kids in a separate room from patrons without kids. The food is not the greatest, a little bland but not bad.

There is no space to run around but First Watch in Rockville TownCenter has great food. Almost every family has kids there so absolutely kid friendly.
