What Public Schools are you considering?

A companion to the topic on charter schools.

I'm weighing my options on which to choose for the PS/PK lottery... I'm also wondering if I even have chance at all beyond my local school (not my 1st choice)

For Pre-K? What's your Plan B?

School-Within-a-School (Peabody)
Peabody traditional
Tyler Spanish immersion
Brent (seems unlikely we'd get in, though)
Hyde (but I haven't visited yet)

All for PK. Order uncertain, but we are in-bounds for Peabody

What was the Tyler open house like? I have good friends with kids at the school and here a lot of mixed things.

I couldn't go, unfortunately. I loved it last year (of course with a different principal) but we were too low on the waiting list. My neighbors who have a child in PK love it; my friends with a child in PS are more mixed. FWIW, the former do not do after-care and the latter do, and I think they have had a pretty bad experience on that front. Anyway, I am still considering where to rank it -- in theory I would love for my child to do a Spanish immersion program, but it would be nice if the school felt a little more settled/stronger after the leadership change. I hope they hold another open house so I can get a more up-to-date personal view.

Yep, better be careful with this kind of ambitious list. You may be one of the rare ones who don't get in anywhere.

I suspect the above list was a joke . . . or a troll hoping to start an argument about the inequities in DCPS. If not, I apologize to the poster and also think you should relook at your list if you have no back-up plans.
