"Mr. Cuomo proposed to freeze the salaries of the vast majority of public employees for one year, to limit new spending to no higher than the rate of inflation, to limit school property tax increases and to “hold the line” on taxes in general.
“New York has no future as the tax capital of the nation,” Mr. Cuomo said. “Our young people will not stay, businesses will not come, this has to change. Put it simply, the people of this state simply cannot afford to pay more taxes, period.” However in our neck of the woods DC and Maryland are going to raise taxes, that's how they curb excess here. Instead of cutting their fat, bloated budget they attack the taxpayers. |
Who are the Republicans that get it. Eric Cantor was the Republican who proposed a Federal pay freeze, and his plan was exactly the same as the one implemented by Obama - freeze the COLA.
So do the Republicans not get it, or do they and Obama get it? |
It doesn't matter "who gets it". The money is gone. In the States and the Federal Government the s*** is about to hit the fan. Socialism always fails and this coming year will be proof. |

Let's see . . . which group is it that thinks the United States taxpayers should be taxed even more so that every person living here--whether they work or not when able, plus those who choose to do drugs and have child after child, plus every illegal that crosses over our borders should all have health insurance? |
We are still under the delusion that we can afford a considerable amount of nonsense. This is coming to an end this year. We can't afford to educate and treat illegals. We can't afford medicare or Obamacare. we CAN afford social security if the Bernie Madoffs in the Congress stop stealing from it. We can't afford PBS. We can't afford about half of the entire civil servant workforce. This is gonna be messy...but we can get through it as long as all these dependent people remember deep inside themselves what it took to make this country great....SUFFERING...JUDEO-CHRISTIAN VALUES....HARD WORK....SACRIFICE....PRIDE....A GOOD STIFF DRINK....LETS GOOOOOOO! |
OK, we'll see which group has the balls to cut costs. My bet is neither. I base that on the fact that the federal budget has not been reduced by more than 5% in any year since around 1950. So my bet is based on sixty years of history. I will put it in terms of basic math for you: Democrats=Spending Republicans=Deficit Spending At least the Dems are honest. Republicans talk about cost cutting, but what do they do when they get into office? The Prescription Drug Benefit program, which is permanent and irreversible, and it costs $1.2 Trillion (yes Trillion) dollars over the next ten years. So there you go, GOP. All you need to do to impress me is to pay for that one big giveaway to seniors. Instead, they'll probably eliminate funding for PBS. OK, $1.19999 billion to go. |
Oops. I meant 1.1999999 Trillion. I keep forgetting how goddamn expensive that program is. |
Finally, a bipartisan approach. |
You and I are probably very far apart in our views, but I do love your post! You come across as a very intelligent, candid person with a great sense of humor. Hope you have a great day! |
It's funny what you think we can and can't afford. PBS adds up to nothing. Educating and treating illegals does not cost much. OK I get that you do not like them, but they are symbolic only. You could list a pages' worth of such things and not dent the budget. Politicians do this and it is hand-waving and grandstanding. The Federal civilian workforce is 2.8 million people, about a quarter of whom are civilians working in defense. But all of them combined are about 3% of our budget. The ONLY proposal you make that actually helps the budget is to abolish medicare. If you can think of a way to replace it, let your congressman know. |
Until someone proposes cutting spending in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Defense, they're just blowing hot air. |
Yes, and the Republicans won't touch any of the three. I love the poster who says this year it is all coming to an end. So naive... |
The States get the shaft this year. Then everybody turns on the Feds. |
That's how socialism fails. It causes weakness that can't be changed until everything is dragged down with it. People end up pretending to "work" and the government pays people with "pretend" money. LET'S GOOOOO! |
