Big trip with DH over easter week. no kids. WHERE???

Anonymous
I realize that this is the most inopportune time to take a big vacation except for maybe Christmas week, but it is literally the only time my DH and I can take vacation at the same time for a period of about two years and I am bound and determined to make the best of it. We will be by ourselves, no children. Where should we go? Here are my thoughts and why I'm unsure... also, I want to avoid all-inclusives since I may be pregnant at the time and Mexico is out because of all the crime. I am the most indecisive person ever, can someone steer me in the right direction?

1. Europe- we have never been together, and I really wanted to go! This was supposed to be our next big trip. However... April is such a crappy time to fly there in terms of flight prices, the weather may very well be awful, and I wanted to do this Mediterannean cruise that my parents did but none (on any good cruise lines that is) are offered during the time we can go. We could still go to France and Italy but is it worth the expense of the tickets (at least 1k each) when we can't do the cruise I wanted to do and the weather may suck?

2. Hawaii - we went here for our honeymoon and I thought it was okay, some islands were better than others.. not totally gung ho abotu going back but I know that DH would jump on it. I have been here a few - liek 4 or 5 -times and that was the only time he went.

3. Caribbean - I feel like the nice resorts are RIDICULOUSLY expensive (500/night) and I don't want to stay at anywhere crappy, or anywhere overrun with kids on their easter break. Still.. maybe this is our best bet? I don't know! Any specific resort recs for places that are priced closer to $250-300ish per night that are nice? DH hated Puerto Rico so that's out.

4. Florida, California, Arizona - part of me thinks we should stick to somewhere domestic, especially a place like Florida without a long flight, camp out a nice resort for a week and just veg out. Then again.. is that really all that special? Will it be overrun with children? Am I goign to be mad that I spent my one vacation in two years in Florida, where I have already gone a zillion times? I've never been to Scottsdale or anywhere in Arizona and have heard that they have amazing resorts that are comparatively inexpensive to places on the east coast and the Caribbean, but again is that too blah? I've been to California a few times but just for work.. maybe this is an option? Not sure.

HELP!

Definitely Europe. It sounds like it may be awhile before your kids are old enough to go there with you (it's much easier to bring them on a Carribbean resort vacation). Having done a Mediterranian cruise and seen Europe by land, I wouldn't choose the cruise again. I think you should just do Italy. It will probably be quite pleasant there in early April.

Go to St. Lucia - Le Sport

all inclusive adult resort with a spa treatment a day. We went there for our honeymoon and lOVED it. It also has great reviews. The rooms are pricey, but very much worth it.

I would go to Europe -- you could go to Spain for about $750, and the south can be pretty warm that time of year. However, it really depends on whether you want a "relax and recharge" with DH vacation or more of a "see interesting places w/o the kids" vacation.

Go to southern Spain! Sevilla/Granada/Cordoba is beautiful and it should be great weather in April. Or I would go to Paris, there are always direct flights and it is one of the shorter flights to Europe and if the weather is chilly/rainy there are tons of museums, churches, shopping, etc so you don't have to be outdoors the whole time.

After traveling to Europe so much for work, I want to keep close to home. Last Easter my DH and I rented an RV and drove from New Mexico all the way to California. It was a lot of fun.

I don't know what the weather will be like in April in Napa, but that is a beautiful area of CA and very "grown up" - lots of excellent restaurants, of course vineyards, and lovely boutique small hotels. Plus, you could do a couple of days in San Fran if you want a little more "action." Enjoy - I am so jealous
