Safe to prop baby on boppy?

Anonymous
My baby has mild reflux and our ped told us to elevate DD at and angle her after feeding. Was wondering if people use the boppy or are there any commercial pillows or props out there? We are only planning to use this for daytime.

As long as she's not sleeping in it, the Boppy should be fine.

Using a boppy or even a bouncer that has the option to elevate the head should be perfect for daytime

Yes, as long as you are watching closely and not using it for sleeping.

I even think it would be fine for daytime sleeping, as long as you were watching to make sure the baby stayed in a safe position. My DS would always slide down and end up with the boppy actually surrounding his face, so obviously that wasn't good, but I don't know if that would happen to everyone.

There are a few other products out there that might work better:
--I believe boppy makes something called a "newborn napper" or "newborn nest" or something.
--A "nap nanny" is supposed to be good, although I think it's expensive.
--My DS loved the cradle swing at that age (we had the fisher price bunny one)
--And of course, a bouncy seat is always a good option.

Boppy makes a newborn support but DD outgrew it at age 9weeks.

Make sure the shoulders are well supported on the boppy and not just the head. You should be there AT ALL TIMES to reposition the baby since they slide down constantly.

I was a night time nurse for several sets of multiples and that's how we handled them. While one eats the other (s) is (are) right there on our side on the boppy.

It's not safe for sleeping. A swing or bouncer is better. You don't have to turn them on if you don't want to. FYI, a PP mentioned the Nap Nanny but that has been recalled.

So much STUFF for such a simple thing. Yes, you can use a boppy, or just a regular pillow as long as it's not for sleeping and you're there to watch the baby. No need to buy yet another "baby product".

We definitely used it and we actually used it for daytime napping (not in the crib) as well but we were always very close by and stopped as soon as she could move around.

A boppy is probably not your best option for this. As a reflux veteran (I had 3 of them) the important thing is not just that their head is elevated, but that there's a straight line from hips to head, and that the baby does not 'slump' in the middle, putting pressure at the top of the stomach. Depending on the size of your baby, a bouncy seat or a swing, even the nap nanny may do the same thing. You may need to experiment as to what your baby is most comfortable in. One thing that worked for us when the babies were really small was to put a rolled up burp cloth behind the small of their backs (like lumbar support) when in the bouncer or swing to keep them from slumping.

Ooh, good point, PP. I am a PP who said the boppy would be fine, but I was only thinking about safety. I think this poster makes a very good point about reflux.

For the crib, the dex wedge under the mattress worked well for us for reflux & a bouncy seat.

It is "safe" as long as you are watching - I would not leave baby alone - that is not safe.

This product was a lifesaver for us and our reflux baby! The first night we used it was the first night she slept for more than 30 minutes without being held. It is not expensive and can be folded up so it does not take up a lot of room either.

Good luck!

Ditto on the Rock and Play. This is our 3rd reflux baby and I wish I had it for the first two.
