Where's the best chili in town?

Anonymous
Recent TX transplant. Not snobby about my chili, but am looking for something with a bit of kick.

Have you tried Hard Times? They have several different styles (all good).

Personally, I love Old Ebbit's chili, but I doubt it would meet your Texas standards.

Ben's Chili Bowl on U St. gets a lot of love but I haven't actually tried it (far away from where I live) so I can't vouch for it. I like Hard Times chili but I like my chili on the not-super-spicy side; you might need to add some tabasco. Carpool in Arlington has decent chili, as does the Vienna Inn in Vienna.

Hard Times chili is actually quite good, have several choices. Despite the, "you got to go to Ben's Chili bowl," hype they're the only ones that I've seen w/it listed as Chili con Carne, and it's also pretty good with a kick.as are the half-smokes.

As a removed Tejano I can relate, if you see any Wolf Brand chiil (yes, I know in a can) or Big Red please post.

Good luck!

Ben's sucks for chilli and the only reason mos tpeopel go there is because they wan tto say they have been since Obama has been there. 99.9% of them woud not go there after dark

Ouch, 14:11 sure has some issues.

Dude, everyone know that the reason to go to Ben's is because of good ole' Bill Cosby. Oh, I think 99.9% of the people from your trailer park wouldn't go there after dark, it's much to gentrified & diverse.

The original Stoney's used to have chili with a kick, don't know if the same holds true since they moved to P street NW.

Ha ha, you're so dated!

I love Jammin' Java in Vienna but I don't think it would suit a Texan's taste.

Right in your own kitchen!

DH is a Texas transplant. The only place he'll eat chili is Hard Times. The Terlingua red. I think that is the name of the one he orders. We visit Texas often and I have to agree with him. Also,we are not fans of Ben's.

To the Pp searching for Wolf's DH has lived here 20+ years and still searching without any luck.

I would not go to Ben's for the chili. It really isn't very good.

Best is what you make yourself. It isn't difficult to make a fantastic chili, and you can customize according to your preferred heat, meat, etc.

California Tortilla (local burrito place with numerous locations) actually has a good chili made with ground turkey.

Ive never had the meaty chili at Bens but I love the veggie chili and have for ten years, before Obama ever went there

Ive heard from others who have had the meat version that the veg version is better.
