Can you use an indoor bulb for an outdoor wall mounted light fixture?

I'm talking about the outside light mounted to the front of my house. It has a top/cover, so I think it's protected from rain, etc. It's so dark outfront without a light so I was desperate and just put in a regular 60 watt bulb I would use in my indoor lamps. What do you think? Is the whole thing going to explode and I should run and remove it now? I'm hoping it's fine until I can get a bulb clearly labeled "outdoor Light."

if it's a covered lamp, I think you're fine with an indoor bulb.

I've done that for many! years--even on uncovered porches--with no problem.
