neck and shoulder pain

Anonymous
I have a history of tension knots in my neck and shoulder. I am currently 24 weeks, and in the last few weeks I have been having a lot of neck and shoulder pain on the left side. When I rub it, the pain actually gets worse. I have tried different pillows, getting a massage, and taking tylenol, but the pain hasn't gone away. I am not feeling overly stressed now either, so I don't know what is contributing to this. Has anyone else experienced neck/shoulder pain as a result of pregnancy? What did you do to alleviate the pain?

I have this exact same problem at 28 weeks, also on my left side. My massage therapist thinks my left back rib might be getting pushed around. I've been thinking of seeing a prenatal chiropractor. I'll let you know if I do.

Yes, please let me know if you see the prenatal chiropractor and what he/she says.

to the previous poster, where have you been getting prenatal massages?

Take a nice warm bath will help.

I have always had trouble with my neck and shoulder. I had to stop taking the anti-inflammatory and occasional muscle relaxers that helped with the pain. I still see my regular chiropractor every week or two and it helps a lot.

PP here: I like the Teal Center, which has a location in Ballston and inside VHC. They have a number of people who do prenatal massage.
