Book on makeup and style

Anonymous
I'm returning to work in a month and am looking to update my wardrobe and make-up. I was thinking of buying one or two of those books by InStyle, Bobbi Brown, etc. that teach elements of style and makeup application. Anyone have any recommendations?

InStyle is a good book.

I read the bobbi brown book while waiting for cut/color. I have to say that it was pretty good--I didn't run out and buy a bunch of products (just two) but implemented the tips and got some compliments the next day (partly the hair cut but I also felt more polished). I think style is harder to do in a book--depends on your age, taste, budget, etc. however, a friend of mine got a wardrobe consultant for her birthday one year and it was a true makeover. She had been wearing poor fitting, unflattering clothes. the consultant helped her get rid of stuff that didn't work, buy new things, shop for her (killer, 5'1'', size 6) body, help her figure out how to accesorize, what basics she needed, how to mix andmatch without spending a fortune, etc. Now she has a streamlined, but great wardrobe. If I had the $$$, I'd do that.

I also used a stylist. A good one saves you money as she teaches you how to avoid bad purchases as well as wear everything in your closet. Case in point - she had me return $500 of clothing and after paying her for 2 hours, I came out ahead financially.

But you really need to find a wardrobe consultant who fits your needs - personality, working style, and vision. You should call at least 2 (they all seem to have different perspectives) and ask them about how they work and share your goals with them. www.aici.org is a great source as they show who is experienced and certified and also have their info and website links posted.
