Post-surgery

I had a laparoscopic gall bladder removal 2 days ago. I many times heard it's the simplest surgery someone can go through with very minimal to no pain after the surgery. BUT mine still hurts especiallay in 2 ( the one in center area right between my breast and the one above the belly botton) of the 4 wholes. I also still feel some pain in the stomach area like I felt before surgery along with lot of gas. I am thinking to give the doc a call but I wanted to see what others who had the surgery think. Thanks a lot.

I had the same surgery 14 years ago as a senior in college. Don't remember much, except that I was on very strong drugs/pain killers during the first few days/week. I returned to normal activity within a week, but complete recovery took much longer.

It won't hurt to call your doctor and ask about the pain, but it's important to remember that this is surgery after all...

You are going to be in some "discomfort" as they say for a few days. And the gas is a GOOD sign. It means that your insides are coming back to life after the anesthesia, which basically froze your gastrointestinal tract into immobility so they could do their work. One of the first things they ask you in the days after any kind of abdominal surgery is "Are you passing gas yet?" It means that you are on the road back to health. Many times they won't let you leave the hospital until you do.

OP here: this forum is a blessing. Believe me NOBODY at the hospital explained a thing to me. In fact, I was scheduled to have the surgery done by a doctor I know and I was very happy about that, but then an emergency came up; my liver enzimes went way up high, stones migrated to many places and caused infection, to say a few... then the one doctor who was on call perfomed the surgery. It was my luck.
The good thing is that I am passing very little (better than nothing)gas now at home.

I had this same surgery last summer. Sounds easy peasy, right? My doctors kept reminding me that its' basically like getting stabbed in the gut 4 times and it will take time for things to heal and feel better. I was off for two weeks total recovering from the surgery. Take the pain meds (don't be a hero!) and do very little work around the house (easier said than done, I know). Do try to move around a bit to get things moving more smoothly inside (gas, etc). Go see a few movies in a week or so and that'll force you to just sit there and do nothing! Hang in there- you'll feel better soon.

13:02- thanks a lot for the advice, and yes, easy said than done with there are two toddlers in the house. So far, I have had some help from the only friend who lives in the area, but she will be going soon!!! I'll see how I can manage the rest of the time.

Hope you feel better soon! I had a different sort of surgery last year, and when I came home from the hospital, I seriously felt like a semi had run over me. I was so sore all over (large muscles) that my mother and husband had to lift me off the couch. I called the anesthesiologist, and she told me that it's totally normal to feel a lot of muscle pain and gas pain after major sedation. Like you, I wish I had been told that BEFORE departing for home! Alas, it wouldn't hurt to give them a ring just to see if you can do something to ease the pain. Good luck!

Thank you very much 20:11. I do appreciate your post. I may wait until tomorrow and if things don't feel better, I will call the surgeon. Oh yeah! muscle aches are bothering me way too much but I am been patient.

There are some digestive tract side effects sometimes for people who have had their gall bladders removed. I can't remember what, since the forum I was on was about something else, but I recommend you poke around.

Laproscopic means there were little holes. It doesn't mean they didn't pull, stretch tear, and otherwise do some rough things to your abdomen.

"discomfort" - doctors shouldn't be allowed to use that word.

OP Here again. 22:47- you are TOTALLY right about doctors should NOT be allowed to use the word disconfort!!! Listen to this: a few minutes prior to my surgery, my surgeon was complaining to my husband that his sister in law recently did the same surgery and he was feeling very bad for her because she is not feeling well, can't move around much and can't enjoy every day activities like she used to......I was like:Oh my God, so it is kind of a painful and any patient will need some time to recover and get their full strength? the surgoen responded: oh no, I should be up and running in just a few days...!!!!!! what am I? a robot??? the surgeon was very concerned about his sister in law more than his patient!!!
Anyway, I am trying to figure out what the abdominal pain I am still experiencing can be from. I called the doc office and they said he is out of town until nextweek!!

i had laprascopic surgery for my appendix to be removed abt 4 months ago. To be honest, i was told to treat it like a normal surgery and take it super easy for 2 weeks. It took 8 by the time I felt the pain from the surgery was gone. i of course had a different situation ( ruptured appendix), but my laprascopic surgical sites nonetheless took a while to heal. Remember they still cut thru scar tissue etc internally and everyone's body heals differently.
